Growing up in New England, good memories of my surroundings from when I was a child include how fresh and clean the air smelled. Or at least it seemed that way. It might have been worse with fewer restrictions in place than now, but my unscientific guess is it’s worse today because there are more people in the world, more factories, more cars, etc.

Either way, there was a feeling of a lighter world to me than today.

Most families that I knew had one car and also relied on buses. I know my sister, and I took buses with my mother at times. Other times she’d drive, but we just had one car in the family.

One HUGE change in the country’s environment today is the awareness of climate change. I can only hope that we can solve some of the issues today for my granddaughter’s generation. I do what I can with composting, recycling, and buying eco-friendly as much as possible — and just buying less.
