How am I reducing my waste?

Well, it’s a process! When you’ve been buying plastic containers of nuts, tomatoes, shampoo, and on and on, it takes some time to lesson your wasteful load.

My latest venture is contributing to composting. I started about a year ago (December 2020). I drop food scraps off each week at a local composting company. It’s a pretty simple process. I have this cute metal container that I keep in the fridge. It has a cover with spaces for two filters which keep it pretty much odor-free. I put a three-quart Bio bag in it, continue adding my veggie and fruit cuttings or leftover food scraps, and drop it weekly or more if needed. That added a significant reduction to my waste. It’s worth the effort, which isn’t that much, and now I couldn’t imagine not doing this.

Other efforts to reduce waste include bar soaps for showers and face, and even for my hair along with conditioner. They’re all working great! For hand and dish soaps, water added with a tablet or concentrate does the job fine. I’ve also been using a…
