What’s the best advice from Mom?!

My mother gave me plenty of advice over the years. Some I used, some I didn’t….

Likely the same for many mothers and daughters! Ev gave me advice from the best way to draw something, for example, when I was little, to mothers’ tips when I had children of my own. She’d often share her way of doing something to make it easier than my way. Yes, that is a ‘Mother’ thing sometimes, but usually, it was easier than mine :)

Reflecting over some of her best advice, I realize I’m still using some of it, if not more of it today at 63 years of age.

Advice #1:

Let a man come after you. Play your cards right. Lol, I’ve probably used that advice less than I should have over the years, though lately, it has been easy to follow. Since my last relationship a few years ago, I had surgery and had some minor complications with recovery, which lasted over a year. Then I lost my mother, and less than a year later, the pandemic arrived and was not the ideal moment to meet new people.

Advice #2:

Get your stomach down. Lol, and it’s true. My stomach is a problem. I have more trouble finding jeans and pants because my waist and tummy tend to carry excess weight. Many styles of pants that fit my waist are too big for my hips and legs. As I get older, it gets worse. And, of course, Ev would say cut down on bread. And that is what I’m working on to this day. I’m obsessed with bread! Let’s hope I now follow both the advice on men and the bread overeating!

Advice #3:

During her last few years, my mother had a small cell phone which stood in a charge station on her nightstand. When she was 97 (shortly before she passed away), some of her final advice included:

Use cell phones at the end of the day when you are sitting by yourself. She said too many of us (people) walk around looking at our phones, texting or talking, including me!

Ev had a good point. Phones can zap away the day with endless searching and scrolling.

I do my best to limit texting and checking news and apps on my phone. Though I need to work on this one and some others, it’s possible to conquer the stomach loss, get a pair of pants with a decent fit, and find my dream guy! My mother will be beaming in heaven at my success using some of her best advice! Oh, and then in the evening, I’ll scroll through my phone, and who knows, there may be a few inspiring messages for me ;) I’d have ‘played my cards right!’
