I Cured my Fear of Deleting Emails…

There were days that I wanted to rid of my entire email account! Of course, I won’t do that, but I knew I had to devise a plan to receive fewer emails in my Inbox and delete some faster than I’d been doing.

Between daily spam, bill reminders, and other emails, too many were coming in and left to read later. Last week I began getting more control over my Mac email account.

I’ve streamlined my emails at this point, but it wasn’t an easy task.

I realized I feared losing out on the latest sale, so there were many emails I’d save. I kept many others to read later, but they piled up and were not always read.

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one that has Fear of Missing Out with deleting emails.

But what helps me now is the new budget I’ve been on lately. (If you haven’t read my budget story, check that link to find out the book I read). Missing out became less critical.

I have a higher purpose ~ To save instead of buying on sale.

And to also save energy reviewing all the various types of emails. Have more time to spend with family and friends, or just have some relaxing time.

It’s terrific to have information at our fingertips but not so great to overload with information and feel stressed.

I’m learning to let go and search for what I need when I need it.

How I’m cutting back on email is pretty simple:

I sifted through my emails and put some I couldn’t part with in an archive folder I had cleaned up; now it has 48 emails, and a work archive has 7. Not bad. I can live with this.

I went through all that was left and kept some in the current Inbox I knew I might need. I usually kept about 250–350; that’s with deleting some daily, and I got down to 31.

I put the email address or company name in the search and deleted the oldest/duplicates, etc. I’ve always done this, but I wasn’t deleting enough before (again, FOMO).
