Technology Tweaking
I’m afraid to put my phone away for a whole day, but I’m convincing myself I can cut back!

Are you afraid to put your phone and computer away for a day?
I cannot remember the last time I did not use them or at least one device for a day. I think it might have been when I underwent surgery several years ago. Hard to believe.
Besides using it for work, I wonder if I could personally live without technology for at least one day.
I cut down using IG, for example, at certain times of the day. My discipline lasted for less than a week before I went back to frequently checking stories, posts, and messages.
In other words, I didn’t stick to the plan :(
I wrote another story here on Medium about my fear of deleting emails. You can read more here if you’d like.
Checking social accounts and checking emails have some differences. I usually open my email about 2–3x a day on my computer, which seems more structured than picking up the phone and randomly looking at IG, Twitter, news, weather, etc.
Though I occasionally post on social, I am not a daily poster.
I text family and friends and primarily use Twitter to chat with others about a favorite TV show, news, etc.

I want to work on reducing how much I’m scrolling and messaging. I get annoyed with myself over my technology overuse. I envy friends or people who say they don’t post at all and hardly go on social media. Time for some tweaking.
Brings me back to good ol’ parents’ advice ~
*I remember my mother’s advice about using phones at night when no one is around. And think about her comment that people shouldn’t use their phones while they walk. That bugged her so much.
‘I see so many people walk doing this,’ she’d say to me while mimicking like she was scrolling a phone screen.
*I also remember my father saying everything in moderation (he didn’t always follow his own advice, but he tried).
